Kermit is an awesome looking Kombi, particularly if you like green. He had been extensively restored about 8 years ago prior to me getting him, but after that he sat in the previous owners garage for about 5 years doing nothing until I purchased him about 18 months ago. As far as the bodywork goes, he is in excellent condition and besides a few small bits of surface rust he is basically rust free. He probably hasn't seen rain or salt for at least 6 years. The whole time I have owned him he has been in my shed.
Mechanically he is excellent as I have spent a lot of time and money to ensure he is running just right. He originally had a 1600 engine but this was replaced with an 1800 around the same time as the restoration. The engine itself is excellent, all I have had to do is replace ancillary components to make it run just right.
The work I have done includes:
Mechanical:
- Replaced distributor
- Replaced spark Plugs
- Replaced ignition leads
- Replaced ignition coil.
- Replaced points
- Rebuilt carburettors
- Replaced push-rod tube seals
- Changed Oil and filter
- Adjusted Tappets
- Replaced rocker-cover gaskets
- Adjusted timing
- Clean brake discs and drums and machine where necessary
- Bleed brakes
- Adjust handbrake
- Adjusted clutch
Interior:
- Re-upholstered front seats, rock-n-roll seat and rear mattress
- New floating wooden floor
- Re-covered interior trim/door cards
- Re-painted dash
- New front floor matt
- New stereo with CD, USB and AUX
Exterior:
- Paint restoration by professional painter (Complete cut and buff)
- New front blinker and rear tail-light lenses
- Repainted wheels
- New hubcaps and dress rims
The only thing left to do is fit the new canvas for the pop-top
I have already taken Kermit to my mechanic to be inspected and there is nothing left to do for registration. When you are ready to take him he will come with a Blue slip, ready for you to register either on historic or full registration. He can be registered legally as a 5 seater and will be equiped with rear seatbelts.
I could write a whole lot more about Kermit, but I'm sure you would prefer to call or just come and have a look. My number is: 0431-885-082.
Kermit is in Somersby on the Central Coast near Gosford, only 30mins drive from Hornsby in Sydney and an hour drive from Newcastle.
